FoghornLeghorn, "Rooster"

After 18+ years of competing in agility and training three rescue Border Collies to 2 ADCh’s and a PDCh, I was able to pursue my bucket list item of training a herding dog with Rooster. We’re just starting out and I can’t say enough about how talented, trainable and balanced he is. I live on a ranch in rural Idaho without a lot of opportunities to socialize a puppy, but Rooster is unflappable with dogs and people. He is great with my grandkids who range from 3 year old noisy twin girls to a fourth grader. He does well with adults too. I’ve taken him to a busy farmer’s market, agility and herding trials with no issues. He handles the hustle and bustle in stride.

I raised Rooster to be a herding dog and have done very little agility training. In that limited training, he did earn a P1 USDAA jumpers leg, his first time in the ring. He’s a good jumper with plenty of power. He’s very quick and agile and I have no doubt he could complete an ADCh and put down competitive times.

As a herding dog, he is kind to his stock and has a good sense of balance. He takes pressure well and is biddable. He’s a good shedder and nice at the pen, holding his side with patience and finesse. I’ve never seen him back down from a sheep and rarely grips. He will also work cattle. We did some trialing his Nursery year and he placed 2ndin a USBCHA sanctioned trial. After his run the judge commented “nice dog”.

Rooster is a fun loving guy who could go any or several directions in dog sports. He’s easy to live with at home and to travel with. He’ll try anything and gives 100%.
